Anil Relia is one of the most popular and richest Art Collector who was born on February 6, 1957 in Surat, Gujarat, India. Anil Relia is a collector of art specifically portraits since the year 1970. His goal is to weave India in a web of art and to pay his debt to the art that has been so kind to him. He hopes to reach as many people as he can by his efforts and work and make them more aware of the art and culture. He has arranged a series of shows and exhibitions on the concept of portraits he meticulously taken over the years from which nine have already been implemented, and more are scheduled.

Born in Surat in Surat Gujarat He graduated from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Fine Arts Major (Applied Arts, Serigraphy and Photography) in the year 1978. Since his childhood, Anil had a love for collecting art. His initial art collection consisted of labels that were glued on to bundles of cloth which would arrive at the location of a warehouse near his home. He would take those labels away, clean them , and then preserve the labels in his school book. The passion for art was more fuelled in college as he began to use his pocket money to buy artwork instead of spending it on other essentials. When he finished his studies his move in the direction of Ahmedabad to find work.

Relia was a part of the serigraph series by M. F. Husain and released a number of Limited Edition Serigraphs too. Through the use technological advancements, Relia was able to also create the biggest serigraph to be created in India Husain’s Mother Teresa, which was presented at Paris in 2004. The chance encounter altered the course of Relia’s life into one where her passion is now alive and well. In a glance at her interest in Indian pictures, the Husain created a portrait of his family and gave it to Relia. Relia was with Husain during his many adventures, whether it was filmmaking or any other type of project. The death of Husain created an end to his career as Relia lost a companion philosopher, guide and philosopher to the sands and sands.

F. Husain was in search of an artist who could serigraph his work that could be able to accurately reflect his work. This research brought his to Ahmedabad. At the time there were not many people in India were doing work on this magnitude and of such high quality. Anil Relia and M.F. Husain became such close to each other that Husain continued to visit the city. He was seen at an stall selling tea that contains one of his paintings and an art gallery named after him.

Apart from portraits, his collection of Nathdwara school miniatures paintings is also quite extensive. A book titled, Portraits of Devotion – Popular Manorath Paintings from Nathdwara in the collection of Anil Relia, was published and launched in March 2019. The book is researched & authored by a London bred Italian writer Isabella Nardi who specialises in South Asian paintings.
