She is a Canadian cross country skier and former biathlete. She represented Team Canada at the 2006, 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics as well as in 12 editions the Biathlon World Champs.

Kocher retired in March 2016 from the biathlon competition and, by January 2017, she was enrolled at Mount Royal University as a student in massage therapy. In 2017, Kocher competed in Canmore’s national cross-country skiing championships. She won the 5km competition and was second in the 30-km event. This field included members of Canada’s national cross-country ski team. In honor of Richard Boruta (her former biathlon coach who was killed in an August 2017 climbing accident), she decided to return to cross-country skiing competition and switch to part-time study. Kocher won the Gatineau Loppet 51km freestyle race in February 2018.

Kocher was third in the 15-kilometer individual race in Ostersund, Sweden. This made her the first Canadian biathlete to reach the podium at a top-level international competition since Myriam Beard ten years ago. Kocher, after a two-year period of illness, took fourth in a pursuit at Pokljuka’s third meeting of 2009-10 season. She shot 20 of 20 targets, which was her first event. She was part of the Canadian women’s relay team that placed eighth at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi (Russia), which was the highest Canadian finish ever in that event.

Kocher began her career as a cross-country skier and was introduced to biathlon at 1998 Alberta Winter Games. After graduating high school in 2000 she moved to Canmore to continue her training. After being selected for Canada’s 2001 Junior World Championships, she moved to Canmore to train full- time. In 2003-04, she began her first full-time Biathlon World cup campaign. She finished in the top 30.

She was one of five Canadian biathletes, along with Sandra Keith, Rosanna Crawford and Megan Imrie, who took part in the Bold Beautiful Biathlon calendar. Zina Kocher, one of few fully-funded athletes in the national biathlon programme, took the initiative to seek out additional funding. Kocher believed the calendar would create a new image for young Canadian women to admire: a healthy and athletic body. Adrian Marcoux and Rachel Boekel took the nude photos in Canmore, Alberta. Each athlete would be featured on two pages and each group photo will be included. Bold Beautiful Biathlon was the name of the calendar and it sold for $25. Inspired by a 2001 calendar featuring Sara Renner and Beckie, Olympic cross-country skiers in Cross Country, the biathletes were inspired. Renner and Scott, together with three of their teammates, took off their clothes for a calendar to raise money.
