Zhantoro Zholdoshevich Satybaldiyev, Kyrgyz: Zhantoro Zholdoshevich Satybaldiyev; born 6 Januar 1956), is a Kyrgyz politician. He was the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan between September 2012 and March 2014.
The Prime Minister is facing one of the most pressing problems: the increasing calls for nationalization of the Kumtor gold mine by the Ata-Zhurt group. Centerra Gold’s gold mine, which is owned by Canada, contributes nearly 12% of Kyrgyzstan’s GDP. The mine’s output drop was the main reason for the economic contraction in the past months. The Prime Minister was increasingly criticized by the less wealthy, nationalist South of the country, particularly Jalal- Abad. Satybaldiyev visited the mine on October 1, 2012, and assured that it would not become a nationalized. Nationalization of the company is not a good idea, as it would be a failure to fulfill promises to reduce poverty.
