Zhang was born in Beijing on June 11, 1959. His ancestral home is in Sichuan. Zhang has an elder brother and a sister. He joined the China National Radio choir as a youngster at 12 years old. He was conscripted to military service in 1976, the same year as the Cultural Revolution. He worked at the North China Sea Fleet. Zhang returned to Beijing in 1980. That year, he enrolled in Beijing Film Academy and majored as an actor. He was then accepted into the Central Academy of Drama two years later. He graduated in 1986 and was assigned to Beijing Film Studio.
Zhang Guangbei (Chinese Zhang Guang Bei; born 11th June 1959) is an actor from China. He is best known for his roles as Lu Bu in Romance of the Three Kingdoms (1994), and Chu Yunfei, in Drawing Sword (2006).
Zhang appeared in Hu Guang (1988), which earned him a Chinese Academy of Performing Arts Society Award.
