Dot Rotten signed his Mercury Records record deal in 2011. He made numerous guest appearances on Ed Sheeran’s No. 5 Collaborations Project (“Goodbye to You”) and Mz. Bratt’s Elements mixtape (“Speeding By”), and Cher Lloyd’s Sticks + Stones (“Dub on the Track”) are both available on Mz. He was also featured on “Teardrop”, the charity single for Children in Need 2011. Rotten was one of the many artists that Gary Barlow assembled under the name “The Collective”, which also included Chipmunk and Wretch 32. Bratt, Labrinth and Rizzle Kicks were joined by Ed Sheeran and Ms. Dynamite by Tulisa Contostavlos. This single was performed at Children in Need 2011 as well as Children in Need Rocks Manchester in Nov 2011. It debuted at number 24 in the UK Singles Chart. This marks Dot Rotten’s first chart appearance. In June 2014, Above The Waves self-released an EP featuring the lead song “Normal Human Being”.
After leaving his label deal, Minfection EP was released in January 2014. Ellis then proceeded to put out his self-released album Interview featuring artists including Sickman, Stylo G, Lady Leshurr and Abel Miller.
Taking a break from rapping, Ellis changed his stage name to Zeph Ellis and focused on production, releasing various instrumental projects including the This Side of Grime series. He produced an instrumental titled “XCXD BXMB” which featured on the fabriclive.83 mix CD. It was used as the basis for Kano’s “Garage Skank” from Made in the Manor, and AJ Tracey’s “Naila” from the Alex Moran EP. Ellis also produced Jammer’s 2016 single “Dagenham Dave.”
On 4 November 2011, Dot Rotten released his debut single, “Keep It on Low”. On 5 December, it was announced that Dot Rotten had been nominated in the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll. “Are you not Entertained” is the second single by Dot Rotten. After a BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe premiere on 4 January, the song was released on March 4, 2012. “Are you not entertained?” Rotten debuted at number fifty three on the UK Singles Chart, and number twenty-one in the UK R&B Chart. This was Rotten’s debut chart appearance as a solo artist. On 28 May 2012, the third single by Rotten, “Overload”, was made available in the United Kingdom. The track, which features Robert Miles’ 1996 number-two hit “Children”, was chosen as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in World. “Overload” reached number fifteen on the UK charts, and also debuted at number three on R&B’s R&B chart. Voices In My Head was Dot’s debut studio album. It was released in the United Kingdom at number fifteen on the UK chart. Dot dropped the album after the singles were released. The label had issues and the album only reached number 146 on UK Albums Charts. Soon after, a mixtape called Throwback Music was released. It included songs that did not make it to the final cut.

Ellis started rapping when he was seven years old. He used an Atari model to create his music. In 2007, he released This Is the Beginning, his first self- produced mixtape under the name Young Dot.
Ellis gave up the moniker in 2012 and adopted a new name, Dot Rotten. A second mixtape, R.I.P., was released following the name change. Young Dot was released in July 2008.
