He currently plays with the Binghamton Devils (American Hockey League) and is under contract to New Jersey Devils (NHL). The Boston Bruins selected McIntyre in the 6th round (165th overall), of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
McIntyre, who had spent his first four professional seasons with the Bruins, was released as an unrestricted agent and signed a one-year, 2-way contract with Vancouver Canucks. He began the 2019-20 season in the Bruins. McIntyre was given by the Canucks for the 2019-20 season as a Utica Comets AHL affiliate player. McIntyre shared the starting duties with prospect Michael DiPietro and posted 11 wins in 24 games. McIntyre was briefly recalled by Canucks, but he did not play in any game.
Due to Tuukka Rask, the Bruins’ primary goaltender, getting groin injuries at the season’s beginning, McIntyre made the NHL debut on October 25, 2016 in a 5-0 loss against the Minnesota Wild. On October 26, McIntyre was named the Bruins’ starting goaltender in a 5-2 defeat to the New York Rangers. McIntyre and Malcolm Subban, a fellow Providence Bruins goaltender, were both re-signed by Boston Bruins on July 14, 2017. They each received $650,000 annually.

McIntyre arrived at the University of North Dakota from the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he played junior hockey with the Fargo Force, and was named the USHL Goaltender of Year for the year 2011. McIntyre has committed to playing collegiate hockey for NCAA Division I University of North Dakota’s men’s hockey team, which participates in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
McIntyre became a professional after his junior season in North Dakota’s 2014-15 season. He signed a two-year entry level contract with the Boston Bruins in June 2015.
On February 24, 2020, McIntyre was traded by the Canucks at the NHL trade deadline to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for fellow goaltender Louis Domingue. He was immediately assigned to join the Binghamton Devils of the AHL.
