He succeeded Philippe Couillard, who had served five years as the Minister for this portfolio. He was a member of the National Assembly of Quebec of Jean-Talon. He is a member the Quebec Liberal Party.

After much speculation, Bolduc announced that he would be resigning as Education Minister and MNA on Feb 26, 2015.

Bolduc was a member the Liberal Party in 2007’s general election for the Lac Saint-Jean riding. But, he was defeated in the election by Alexandre Cloutier, Parti Quebecois. The PQ swept the entire Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region in that election.

The statements have caused outrage among some Quebecers who have started a petition asking for his resignation. He later announced a re-examination of the rules, stating an independent party will be investigating the situation.
