Yutaka Fukufuji is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on September 17, 1982 in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan. Yutaka Fukufuji, also known as Fu Teng Li, Fukufuji Yutaka (born September 17, 1982), is a Japanese ice hockey player who plays for the Nikko Ice Bucks in the Asia League Ice Hockey. Fukufuji was Japan’s first player to play in a National Hockey League match. Hiroyuki Miura was the first Japanese draft pick. However, he never played in an NHL match. Fukufuji was the second Japanese citizen to be selected in the NHL as a goaltender.

Fukufuji became the first Japanese player in an NHL game on January 16, 2007. He started the game in goal against the Atlanta Thrashers.

On May 25, 2009, Fukufuji was signed by the Destil Trappers of the Eredivisie, the top league in the Netherlands. After one full season with Destil Trappers Fukufuji signed with Nikko Ice Bucks in July 2010.

On January 29, 2020, It was announced that Fukufuji was selected to represent Japan in the 3rd round of qualifiers for the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Fukufuji did not receive a qualifying offer from the Kings prior to the 2007/08 season. However, he signed a contract with the Condors for the 2007/08 season and returned to the Condors September 10, 2007.

Fukufuji was born in Kushiro, Hokkaido, Japan. In 2001, Fukufuji was a member of the Asia League Ice Hockey’s Kokudo hockey club. In the 2004 entry draft, he was drafted by Los Angeles Kings in 8th round, 238th overall. On February 7, 2003, he made his North American debut with the ECHL Cincinnati Cyclones. In January 2003, he was voted the ECHL rookie-of-the-month. In 2004-05, he played for the Bakersfield Condors in the ECHL, leading the team in wins and GAA. Fukufuji was awarded a two-year entry-level contract by the Los Angeles Kings in August 2005. Yutaka, who had started the 2005-06 season as the Reading Royals’ ECHL franchise, was for a while the number two goalie with the AHL Manchester Monarchs.

Fukufuji, a Japanese player, was summoned to the Los Angeles Kings emergency team on December 15, 2006. Fukufuji was the first Japanese player to wear a NHL uniform, but he didn’t play.

When goaltender Mathieu Garon was placed on injured reserve with a broken finger, Fukufuji was again recalled and flew in from Cleveland, Ohio to dress as backup to goalie Barry Brust. On January 13, 2007, Fukufuji made his first NHL appearance, the first by a Japanese player, when Kings head coach Marc Crawford decided to put him in to start the third period of a game against the St. Louis Blues. Fukufuji entered the game with the Kings trailing 5–4. He allowed one goal in the period, and the Kings also scored one goal while he was in net. The final score of the game was 6–5 in favor of St. Louis; as Fukufuji was the goaltender who allowed the decisive sixth St. Louis goal, he was assessed the loss.
