Yuan Lin, despite receiving many offers, decided to stay in Shenzhen. He joined Shenzhen Fengpeng along with other former Shenzhen Ruby founders. Yuan Lin, who was the ever-present captain and commander of defense in the 2012 Yi League season, also scored critical goals that secured a playoff spot as well as runner-up for the Southern Division. He was present in every game of the 2012 league season and played in all 30 League Two matches for Shenzhen Fengpeng.

Yuan Lin’s legendary career at Shenzhen ended in 2011 season. Philippe Troussier, the new manager, made a helpful tactical suggestion to Yuan Lin during a preseason friendly. Yuan Lin was frequently dropped from the teamsheet, possibly to set up youngsters to be reintroduced to the 1st team. Yuan Lin began his career with Guangzhou Apollo Youth team at 12 years old. However, he was not able to move up to the senior team until the end of 1996 league season. He moved to Shenzhen Ping’an, who were in the second level and fighting for promotion into the top tier of China’s league system. Yuan Lin was promoted to Shenzhen after finishing second in the league.
