Youssef Chahed is one of the most popular and richest Politician who was born on September 18, 1975 in Tunis, Tunis Governorate, Tunisia. Youssef Chahed was born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1975. He studied to be an agricultural engineer at Tunis’s National Agricultural Institute. He graduated as valedictorian from the institute in 1998.

After President of the government Habib Essid lost an overwhelming confidence vote in parliament on 6 August 2016, Chahed was elected by the Nidaa Tounes party as the President of Government. His Government was approved by Assembly of People’s Representatives on 26 August 2016 with 167 votes for out of 194 votes cast. He was then appointed by President of Tunisia Beji Caid Essebsi.

In 2018 protests erupted as a reaction to the newly passed Finance Act which took effect on 1 January, that raised taxes on gasoline, phone cards, housing, internet usage, hotel rooms and foods such as fruits and vegetables. Customs taxes on cosmetics and some agricultural products were also raised.

In 2019, the Chahed government banned the burka after the 2019 Tunis bombings. The same year, Chahed announced his candidacy for the Tunisian presidency.

He was a visiting professor in France, where he taught agriculture economics from 2009 to 2009. He is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

Youssef Chhed (Arabic ywsf.lshd; born 18 September 1975), is a Tunisian politician. He was the 14th Prime Minster of Tunisia, serving from 27 August 2016 through 27 February 2020. He was previously Secretary of State for Fisheries from 2015 to 2016, and Minister of Local Affairs in 2016. He was an original member of Nidaa Tounes until he founded Tahya Tounes. He is an engineer, researcher, and professor at university. On 2 June 2019, he was elected president to the newly formed Tahya Tounes party.

The Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon was his next stop. In 1999, he graduated with a postgraduate diploma in environmental economics and resources. He also obtained a doctorate in Agricultural Economics in 2003 under Jean-Christophe Bureau. His DEA title was “Measuring impact on welfare of tariff cuts for agricultural products: An application of the Trade Restrictiveness Index to the economy of European Union”. His doctoral thesis was about “measuring agricultural trade liberalization’s impact on trade and welfare”.

The Popular Front, an alliance of leftist opposition parties, called for continued protests against the government’s “unjust” austerity measures while Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed denounced the violence and appealed for calm, claiming that he and his government believes that 2018 “would be the last difficult year for the Tunisians”.
