Yosri Fouda Biography

Yosri Fouda is one of the most popular and richest Journalist who was born on January 1, 1964 in Gharbia Governorate, Egypt. Fouda was born at Tanta in El Gharbia, Manshyet Ganzour. After completing his bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Cairo University, he was appointed Assistant lecturer. He completed his master’s at American University in Cairo in 1992. He received a Diploma in Television Production from the Netherlands shortly after his graduation.

The program received a lot of praise from viewers and critics in the Arab world and was awarded second place at 1998 Cairo Radio and Production Festival. Fouda interviewed Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in April 2002. He also admitted to being involved with Ramzi bin Al-Shibh in the September 11 attacks. Fouda doesn’t consider his interview with 9/11 orchestrators to be a turning point in the course of his career. Instead, he believes that it introduced Fouda to an international audience.

In 2006, Fouda, in charge of Aljazeera’s London bureau, broke the story on the “martyrdom video” by “9/11 hijackers” Mohamed Atta and Ziad Jarrah.

Fouda resigned from Aljazeera in 2009, almost two years before the 2011 Egyptian revolution that toppled former president Hosni Mubarak. His resignation was driven by his disagreement with the inter-politics of the news agency, along with his feeling that an important event will soon take place in Egypt. Soon after his resignation, Fouda joined ONTV to host a talk show Last Words (اخر كلام).

He joined Al Jazeera in 1996 as a correspondent for the UK and Western Europe. He helped to establish a London office and an independent production office for Al Jazeera a year later. Later, he was appointed bureau chief for the London Al Jazeera Office. Fouda launched his popular monthly program Top Secret in 1998 (Arabic: Sry llGy@, Sirri lil Gayah).

Fouda received a scholarship from British Council in 1993 to study documentary at University of Strathclyde, University of Glasgow. After being approached by BBC to be a reporter fluent in Arabic, Fouda’s studies were interrupted.

Fouda was a BBC reporter for a short time, from 1994 to 1996. Fouda was part of the establishment of the BBC Arabic service in 1994 and then served as a roving journalist alongside veteran journalist Martin Bell. He reported on the Bosnian independence conflict and other important events in Africa and the Middle East. Fouda was recruited to the Associated Press Television News after two years of service by the Arabic BBC subsidiary. Fouda was involved in the establishment of the Middle East desk within the news agency and the creation of the Arab News Network (ANN) based in London.

Yosri Fouda authored and co-authored a collection of three books. In May 2003, Fouda alongside Nick Fielding published Masterminds of Terror: The Truth Behind the Most Devastating Terrorist Attack the World Has Ever Seen. Almost a year and a half later he published Serri lel-Ghaya meaning Highly confidential, a seven part sequel, which includes a collection of carefully selected investigations. The sequel offers a deeper insight about various events discussed earlier in his show, and grants the reader access to secret reports, testimonies and evidences. This collection was published by the World Book Publishing in Beirut, and is only available in Arabic.
