Yevgeny Viktorovich Sdovyi (Russian pronunciation: Evgenii Victorovich Sadovyi; born 19th January 1973) was a retired Russian freestyle swimmer. He won three gold medals in the 1992 Summer Olympics at Barcelona, and was then named the Male World Swimmer.
Sadovyi finished second in the 200m freestyle at the European Championships in Sheffield in 1993. He also won two golds in freestyle relays. In September 1996, he retired to become a swimming coach. He worked first in Volgograd and then with the Moscow national team. Later, he was in Libya. Sergey Ostapchuk, Yekaterina Kidbalo were his trainees.
The 19-year old Sadovyi was the Olympic Games’ strongest swimmer, winning three gold medals, and setting two world records for his team in the 400 m and 4x200m freestyle. He was 0.01 seconds behind Giorgio Lamberti’s 200 m freestyle world record, but he beat Kieren Perkins’ 400 m record by 1.47 seconds.
