Kafelnikov was Hernan Gumy’s coach during the 2008 Miami Masters. In 2009, he participated in the ATP Champions Tour and beat Michael Chang, Sergi Bruguera and Pat Cash at Chengdu Open. He was 7th on the Champions Tour in May 2011.

Kafelnikov has won three cashes at the 2005 World Series of Poker since he retired from tennis. Kafelnikov also played on the European Tour at five, 2008, 2013, and 2015 Russian Opens, 2012, 2013 & 2014 Austrian Opens, as well as the 2014 Czech Masters and several Challenge Tour events without making any cuts.
