Yehouda Shenhav is one of the most popular and richest Sociologist who was born on February 26, 1952 in Beersheba, Israel. Yehouda Shaharabani, later Shenhav, was born in Beersheba to an Iraqi Jewish family in 1952. He moved to Tel Aviv with his family at three years old and then to Petah Tikva at ten years.

Shenhav is well-known in Israel as a public intellectual as well as being one of the founding members of the Mizrahi Democratic Rainbow Coalition. This social movement was founded in 1996 by Olim, descendants of Jewish refugees. It aims to challenge Israel’s ethnic structure.

Throughout his career, Shenhav published several articles on the subject of the ethnicity, race and on postcolonial regimes. In 2003 he published (in Hebrew) The Arab Jews, in which he attempted to place the discussion of the Arab Jews within the context of the discussion of the Palestinian refugees and the Palestinian narrative. He challenges the Israeli structural knowledge which separates, factitiously in his eyes, between them. The book was also published in English in 2006 (Stanford University Press).

Most of his academic work is done in the Sociology and Anthropology School in the Tel Aviv University, where he is a full professor. He has also taught in several universities in the United States, such as the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Stanford University, Princeton University and Columbia University.

Shenhav published an article entitled “The Bond of Silence” in Haaretz late

  1. It drew a lot of attention. He spoke out about an “inter-generational silence between the ideological commissars from the formative years Zionism (“the salt on the earth”), and the current intellectuals of Israel’s Left (also called “salt of earth”). The silence of these two generations of Ashkenazi Hegemony is shared by them toward the “Mizrahi Problem”. He also said that “denouncing injustice done to Palestinians does not threaten the status of our current Ashkenazi intellectuals.” It doesn’t endanger their status as a hegemonic culture group in Israeli society, or as an economically class.” He also said that “Dealing” with the injustices done to the Palestinians “earns them laurels in humanism, the esteemed positions of slaughterers sacred cows, seekers of peace, the badges of the rebel and a catharsis given the crime of their parents’ generation”, but the Palestinian can be kept on either side of the fence. On the other hand, the Mizrahi Jewish people “cannot be made into an “other” nor can they be cast beyond fence. One can only create detours to bypass poverty neighborhoods and development towns. Recognizing the injustices committed to the Mizrahim, the Israeli left will have to make changes and give up its hegemonic position. They created a taboo to avoid this.

Yehouda SHnhb, Hebrew: yhvdh SHnhb was born 26 February 1952. She is an Israeli sociologist. His contributions to the fields of management, bureaucracy and capitalism are well-known, as is his research on the relationship between Israeli and Palestinian ethnicity and the Israeli- Palestinian war.

He received his BA in sociology from Tel Aviv University in 1977. Four years later, he earned his Master’s in Industrial Management from Technion. He later traveled to Stanford University where he obtained a second MA in 1983 and a doctorate in 1985 in sociology.

In 1999’s Manufacturing Rationality: The Engineering Foundations of the Managerial Revolution, Shenhav set the concept of “Managerial Revolution” up to a critical analysis. He aimed to show how managerial language and activism developed through the creation of a language and practice that hid the aggressive and violent context of their growth. In addition to his previous studies, which described ways in which the managerial profession fought the workers and exercised symbolic and practical violence against them, he also displayed the growth of management as bound in a struggle against Capitalism, which forced it to invent itself and its language out of nothing, fighting both workers and capitalists.
