Russell Alexander Hugh Pitchers (born 20 February 1994) is a Namibian cricketer who made his debut as a senior player with the Namibian national team in the month of March 2013 at 19 years old.

The Namibian youngsters, Pitchers is the most prolific scorer at 2013’s Africa Under-19 Championship in Uganda and scored 228 runs over three innings. In the match against Zambia He was the highest scorer, scoring 161 balls from 143 which helped Namibia to win by 244 runs. Namibia triumphed in its final game against Kenya and qualified for an 2014 Under-19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Pitchers was a part of the under-19 One Day International (ODI) debut at the World Cup, and scored the highest score of 131 runs in four games which was just one behind Gerhard Erasmus for Namibia. His best score came against Zimbabwe with 78 runs from 116 balls.

In addition to his under-19 participation, Smit has become a regular for the Namibian senior side at as well South African domestic tournaments and international competitions. Born to Kimberley, South Africa, Pitchers was a student at Kimberley’s Hoerskool Noord-Kaap (Northern Cape High School) where he played in the team of school cricket. He played for several seasons with the underage Griqualand West teams, and made his debut with the Griqualand West under-19s in October 2010 aged 16. Pitchers and a right-handed batsman was later transferred to Namibia and went on to be selected for the Namibian national under-19 team. He was included in the Namibian team for the 2012 World Under-19 Cup, however he was a part of only two warm-up matches against Zimbabwe and the West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Pitchers’ last matches for the South African domestic side came in December 2012, when he participated in the third consecutive national championship for under-19s with Griqualand West. In March 2013 He made his debut as a first- class player for the Namibian senior team in the South African Three-Day Provincial Competition. In his first game against KwaZulu-Natal Pitchers opened the batting using Pikky Ya France. He scored one duck in the first innings, and six runs in the second innings , as Namibia were defeated to South Western Districts by an entire innings, and then 114 in two days. In the subsequent game, with South Western Districts, Pitchers achieved his first first-class century with 114 runs in 228 balls.
