On the 6th of September, 2012 Wu has been officially named the interim technical director of Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng Taishan F.C., following the resignation of Dutch manager Henk Ten Cate quit the club.

The beginning of 2007’s Chinese Super League season, Shanghai Shenhua F.C. was owned by a new owner, Zhu Jun, and he was replaced Wu Jingui with Osvaldo Gimenez. Wu Jingui was, however quickly reinstated following Osvaldo Gimenez’s demoralizing time to assist them in regaining their season. Wu Jingui would replace Xu Genbao as coach in charge at Shanghai Shenhua F.C. on the 22nd of July, 2002 after a disappointing start the 2002 season in the league. Wu Jingui would later lead Shanghai to finish a disappointing 12th position in the league. A fresh start to the season Wu Jingui would guide Shanghai to the league’s first title for the span of eight years, when they took home in 2003 the Chinese Jia-A League title. It was a surprise that he quit Shanghai in the next season, to work with Arie Haan’s assistantship coach of his Chinese national team in order to assist Arie Haan prepare for his participation in the 2004 AFC Asian Cup; however after Arie Haan had left following the event Wu Jingui was able to return in Shanghai to work as an assistant. In the beginning in the year 2006, Wu Jingui would be appointed head coach. Chinese Super League he would become director for the team of Shanghai Shenhua when he replaced Valeri Nepomniachi. He also coached them to finish second in the league.

Wu Jingui was part of Wu Jingui’s Shanghai young football club, Wu Jingui was never made it to the senior team and was only a part-time player for Zhejiang Province. Zhejiang Province football team for only a few months. Instead of playing football the focus of his life was getting a soccer management degree that saw him studying for a degree in Beijing as well as Cologne for a number of years. He would then be able to secure an assistant manager post with Shanghai Shenhua F.C., which he was with until July 21st 2002.
