After graduating in business administration from the Bocconi University in Milan, he studied at the ESADE Business School Barcelona. Zanni was reelected in the 2019 European elections with 18,019 votes. The strong showing of the League was evident in the election, which became the most popular party in Italy with 34% more votes. He was elected leader of the ID group, which is right-wing.
After the M5S’s failed attempt to join the liberal ALDE Group, Zanni quit the movement and joined the right-wing Europe of Nations and Freedom group (ENF). He became a member the League, a right-wing populist party headed by Matteo Salvini on 15 May 2018.
