Willie Talau is one of the most popular and richest Rugby League Player who was born on January 25, 1976 in Apia, Tuamasaga, Samoa. Viliamu (Willie) Talau (born 25 January 1976) is a native of Samoa, New Zealand-born former professional league player who played during the 1990s and the 2000s. He is a Samoa in addition to a New Zealand international representative centre He was a part of the National Rugby League (NRL) for the Bulldogs and also for the Super League for St Helens who he helped win the Super League Grand Final and the Challenge Cup on four occasions and also played for Salford City Reds.

He signed with St. Helens in late 2003. The club made its Super League debut on 24 August 2003, against Hull F.C.

In 2007 Talau switched allegiances to Samoa. The following year he represented Samoa in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, playing two matches.

In 2008 he was named in the Taranaki Rugby League Team of the Century.

A junior Kiwis player, Talau played in 13 matches in the New Zealand national rugby league team from 1999 until 2006 which included during the 2000 World Cup.

Talau was a student at Spotswood College. Talau was a player in The Taranaki Rockets in the Lion Red Cup. When he was age 21, his father gifted him a single ticket to Australia to see if he could succeed playing in league. In the metropolitan Cup Talau was discovered at his team, the Canterbury Bulldogs, who signed for him to join the National Rugby League. In 1994, the Lion Red Cup Talau played in nine games with one score. Then he played in all 22 games for the Rockets during the 1995 season.

He took part in 100 National Rugby League games for the Bulldogs with 38 tries scored which included one during the 1998 NRL Grand Final defeat by the Broncos. Talau was selected to his New Zealand team to compete at the end of the year 1999 Rugby League Tri-Nations tournament. In the final match against Australia Talau played as a centre during the Kiwis’ loss of 22-20.

Talau scored two tries in the 2004 Challenge Cup Final, and participated in St Helens’ 2006 treble, scoring in both the 2006 Challenge Cup Final and the 2006 Super League Grand Final. Talau scored 11 tries in 29 games during the 2006 season. As 2006 Super League champions, St Helens faced 2006 NRL Premiers the Brisbane Broncos in the 2007 World Club Challenge. Talau played at centre in the Saints’ 18–14 victory.
