Willie Huber is one of the most popular and richest Ice Hockey Player who was born on January 15, 1958 in Straßkirchen, Germany. Wilhelm Heinrich “Willie” Huber (January 15 1958 – June 28 30th, 2010) was an defenseman in ice hockey who played for ten years in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers. As a player of the Red Wings, he represented the Campbell Conference in the 1983 NHL All-Star Game. After joining the Red Wings in 1978, He was the most powerful player (6’5″ and 225 pounds.) within NHL history.
The majority of his time (until the introduction in the form of Kjell Samuelsson in the year 1986) Huber was the largest player in the NHL at 6’5″ and 228 pounds He was taller than the majority of NHL players. In spite of his size, Huber was, however, Huber was primarily an offensive defensive. He was blessed with exceptional hands and skating abilities, Huber was amongst the top goal-scoring players of the league during the 1980s’ early years and an integral part of the Detroit powerplay. Though he was proficient in his own zone however, the fans frequently – and unfairly were expecting him to be an intimidating physical presence this didn’t come natural to Huber.
Huber died of a heart attack on June 28, 2010, in Hamilton, Ontario at age 52.
In the wake of a contract dispute with Red Wings, Huber was traded by his former team the New York Rangers in the summer of 1983. He picked up right where his offensive game had left off, however, he tore ligaments of his left knee during the middle of the season. He was capped to 23 points over 42 games. The following year the player ruptured ligaments on his knee in the right. In the end, his mobility was slowed down considerably and so did his offensive output. In 1985-86, he had scored just 15 points in 70 games. He returned to scoring 30 points between 1986 and 1987, however, he was traded with the Vancouver Canucks early in 1987-88. After a brief, unsatisfactory time in Vancouver the team was sold with the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline. He then experienced an impressive rebound with thirteen points over the course of 10 games.

Huber was selected into the initial round (9th overall) in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft by the Detroit Red Wings after a successful junior career. Huber won the Memorial Cup with the Hamilton Fincups in 1976. He also was a representative of Canada in both the 1977 and the 1978 World Junior Championships. A rare combination of skill and size, Huber stepped directly into the Wings team the following year, scoring 31 points, and was named the Team’s Rookie of the Year.
Huber scored at most 40 and 14 goals for Detroit during the entire season of 1979 and 1983. He was among the best players on the team in a rather sluggish period during Red Wing history. Huber together with Reed Larson formed one of the most dangerous blueline power play teams that the league saw in the period. He was selected as a representative for Canada in the 1982 World Championships and helped the team to finish fourth. He was also a participant in the 1983 World Championships. was chosen to participate at the NHL All-Star Game.
However, following the season Philadelphia wanted him to take a pay cut, and after a resulting season-long holdout he retired in 1989. He finished his 10-year career with 104 goals and 321 points in 655 career games, along with 950 penalty minutes.
