Wendy Patricia Hoyte (nee Clarke born on December 17, 1957) is a British former sprinter who took home an 1983 Commonwealth Games gold medal and an 1983 European Championships silver medal in the 4 x 100m relay. She also took part in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. She holds the United Kingdom indoor 50 m record, which she established in 1981. In 2016 the record was still held.
In 1981 her record was broken in 1981. UK indoor record of 50m race with 6.21 seconds during qualifying heats for the European Indoor Championships, before finishing seventh in the overall race (usually 60 meters but the race was run at a distance of 50 metres during 1981). The record (as as of 2014) has been in place for more than thirty-three years. In the latter part of the 70s and 80s , she took home 6 AAAs championships at the national level. In 1981, she was named the AAAs 100 meters champion in the year 1981 and 1982 , as well as her AAAs indoor 60 championship in 1977 1982, 1980, 1981 and 1982.
Hoyte missed trying for the 1984 Olympics due to pregnancy. In 1986, she competed at the European Championships in Stuttgart, finishing fifth in the 4 × 100 m relay final.
In 1987, Hoyte competed at three major Championships, she finished fifth in the 60 m final at the European Indoor Championships in Lievin and reached the semi-finals of the 60 m at the World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis. Outdoors, she ran in the sprint relay at the World Championships in Rome. She competed at the 1988 UK Olympic trials in Birmingham, but failed to earn Olympic selection.
They are married Les Hoyte, also a prominent athlete in the sprint (brother of Trevor Hoyte, 1978 Commonwealth 200 finalist) and is mom to footballers Justin, who is a ex- England U21 player and Trinidad & Tobago international, and Gavin who is a player at Barnet as well as an England U19 international. She is also the aunt of British athlete Chris Clarke.

Hoyte is a native of London, England. She was a part of Highgate Harriers and later the Borough of Hounslow Athletic Club. The name of the club was Wendy Clarke, she first became famous at 17 years old in 1975 when she won two silver medals during the European Junior Championships in Athens. She took bronze in the 100 meters in wind-aided 11.53 secs, just behind her fellow East German pair of Petra Koppetsch and Marlies Oelsner (the future Marlies Gohr) and then took silver with Koppetsch at the 200 m race in 23.85.
She took part as a sprinter during the Montreal Olympics in 1976, and ran the first leg of the British quartet , which finished eight in the championship. She was fourth in the 60m final of the European Indoor Championships in Vienna. She was chosen to be part of the relay team to compete in the 1988 Moscow Olympics but didn’t be able to participate.
Hoyte’s best year was in 1982. Indoors, she won a bronze medal in the 60 m at the European Indoor Championships in Milan. At the European Championships in Athens she reached the 100 m final, placing eighth, then won a silver medal as part of the British 4 × 100 m relay quartet, along with Kathy Smallwood, Bev Callender and Shirley Thomas. At the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, representing England, she finished fifth in the 100 m final and won a gold medal in the relay, along with Smallwood, Callender and Sonia Lannaman.
