In 2001 Downswell was the coach of the Jamaica the U20 team during the 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship. He was a part of the Jamaican youth national team in 2007-2008, and was back in the year 2010. The 2007 Pan Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he took his the silver medal. The year before, he was the captain of the Jamaica U17 national team to a tour to Sao Paulo, Brazil ahead of the 2011 CONCACAF U17 finals. The month of the month of February 2011, Downswell led Jamaica U17 to a fourth- place finish at the 2011 CONCACAF U-17 Championship Finals and qualified for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico which was scheduled for June 2011.
