Vladimir (Volodya, Volodja) Pimonov (Russian: Vladimir (Volodia) Ivanovich Pimonov 31 March 1955 Moscow, USSR) is Russian-born Danish journalist writer, poet and scholar. As a journalist, he is most famous as an investigative journalist of Russian and Soviet affairs. His research in literature is focused on Shakespeare and plot (narrative) theory and the concept that theatricality (metatheatre). His work is available in over 100 major libraries, both university and public, across the globe.
In the latter part of the 1970s and into the early 1980s in Moscow along with his academic activities, Pimonov was a journalist for the 64-Chess Review publication (64 (magazine)). He quit his home in the Soviet Union in 1988 and relocated to Denmark in the country where he worked for a daily newspaper of national significance Ekstra Bladet in Copenhagen for more than two decades. He also worked as an Moscow reporter. Pimonov received nominations for Danish journalist award , the Cavling Prize for a series of writings on Soviet operation that was conducted in a clandestine manner that took place in Denmark throughout the Cold War and the Danish Association for Investigative Journalism Award (Foreningen for Undersogende Journalistik) for exposing the shabby working conditions and deliberate violation of safety regulations at these Russian coal mines of Siberia which supplied charcoal to Denmark. Pimonov was presented with the Pushkin medal by the Academy of Russian Literature for his works on Russia. He released documents proving the Soviet Union’s hidden support for the PFLP’s (the second-largest group that comprise the Palestine Liberation Organization) terrorist actions in the lead up to Yasser Arafat’s winning of the Nobel Peace Prize, Moscow’s illegal funding for the Communist Party of Denmark and the revelation of Ayman Zawahiri’s (the Co- founder for Al-Qaeda) actions in Denmark. Together with colleagues from Ekstra Bladet he published a series of investigative reports about relationships (via British Virgin Islands’ shell companies) between Icelandic banks, Kaupthing Bank in particular and the significant Russian holdings that have close connections with the Kremlin. In the course of his career, Pimonov covered a wide variety of subjects that included the military, terrorists and spying.
