Joel Heath (born June 18 in 1993) is an American football defensive player with the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He played three seasons in the football team at Mount Healthy High School in Mount Healthy, Ohio and received the First Team All-State honors two times. He was recognized as one of the Associated Press All-Ohio Division II Co- Defensive Player of the Year in his senior year in 2010. Heath played in the NCAA football tournament in the state of Michigan State, where he was a three- year player. He was awarded Honorable Mention All Big Ten during his senior year in the year 2015. He was a part of 39 games, playing in 24 of them, throughout his time at the college level, recording 60 picks and 4.5 tackles and two breakups of passes, one forced fumble and one recovery. Following his undrafted status at the time of the 2016 NFL Draft, Heath signed with the Texans. He played in six games for the team in the year 2016.

His Michigan State career as a defensive end, participating for five times in the 2012 season and nine games in 2013. He recorded three quarterback hurries, as well as a breakup of a pass in the last year. He was converted to defensive tackle in bowl games in 2013. He took part in 13 games, and he played in all but one as a defensive tackle in 2014, recording 30 tackles, and 2.5 sacks. Heath signed with the Houston Texans in May 2016 after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft. He chose the Texans over four other teams that he had received contract offers from. He made his NFL debut on September 22 against the New England Patriots, recording one tackle assist. He played in twelve games, of which he started in half of them, and recorded five solo tackles, three tackle assists and 2.0 sacks. Both of his sacks came in the Week 17 game against the Tennessee Titans, making him the sixth rookie in Texans history and the first since Whitney Mercilus in 2012 to record two sacks in a game. He also played in both of the team’s playoff games, recording two solo tackles in the first game. He suffered a knee injury during the team’s second playoff game.

He was a member of the Ohio All-Stars team which participated during the summer 2011 Big 33 Classic in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He was named the country’s 26th most effective defensive player for the 2011 class by Scout.com and the 49th top Ohio senior player in 2011. The class was rated by Rivals.com. He was also selected as a member of the All-Midwest Team of both SuperPrep and PrepStar.
