Judge Bryant was first appointed as a judge on Judge Bryant’s position on the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut on January 25 in 2005 by the president George W. Bush, however, she was not confirmed by Senate did not approve her nomination. Judge Bryant was the 38th person to be appointed as a District Judge within Connecticut and was the first African-American woman to be appointed a Federal Judge to the federal court in New England. The appointment was made despite majorities of opinions from both the American Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association’s Federal Judiciary Committees and both of them stating that Judge Bryant “not qualified.”

Bryant oversaw a lawsuit filed by attorney Konstantine Kyros on behalf of over 60 former professional wrestlers against WWE which alleged that the company did not protect its employees from head trauma. She dismissed the lawsuit in September 2018.

As judge in the capacity of Superior Court Judge she served as the Presiding Judge for the Civil Division of the New Britain Judicial District from 2002 until 2003, and as an Administrator Judge of the Judicial District of Litchfield from 2003 to 2005 , and then as Presiding Judge of the Civil Division of the Judicial District of Hartford until 2007 until she became a judge of as a Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. She also served as the presiding judge in the New Britain Judicial District from 2002 until 2004, and later the Hartford Judicial District from 2006 until her appointment as a federal judge in 2007. While she was judge of the State Court Judge, Judge Bryant was the subject of four reviews from judicial review.

Bryant was born in Queens, New York, attended Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California, and was graduated from Howard University with her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 and then graduated from University of Connecticut School of Law with Juris Doctor in 1978.

From 1975 until 1976, she worked as a lawyer for the local administration from Stamford, Connecticut. Bryant was a private attorney in the offices of Day, Berry and Howard (presently Day Pitney) in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1978 until 1981. From 1981 until 1989 she was counsel for Aetna Life and Casualty Company, and Shawmut Bank from 1989 to 1990. She was Vice General Counsel and President to the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority from 1990 until 1992. She then in 1991 she was a member of in 1991 the Connecticut Board of Pardons, which she served until 1998. She was counsel for, and later a partner at the New York-based lawyer firm Hawkins, Delafield and Wood from 1992 until 1998. She was also the Chapter 13 bankruptcy trustee of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut, Bridgeport division until 1996, when she was appointed to the position of Connecticut Superior Court judge on September 1st in 1998.

On January 9, 2007, President Bush once again nominated Judge Bryant to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, a seat vacated by judge Dominic J. Squatrito. Following her re-nomination, the ABA committee issued a revised opinion, rating her as “qualified”. Bryant was confirmed by the Senate on March 28, 2007, on a Senate vote and received her commission on April 2, 2007.
