Motte was selected at 121st overall for the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and played in 33 games with this team during 2017, before being transferred with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Motte played for U.S.A. United States at the 2012 World U-17 Hockey Challenge, where he had one assist over five games and earned the silver medal. Motte played for U.S.A. United States at the 2013 IIHF World U18 Championships, which saw him score 5 goals as well as 2 assists in seven games and took home an award of silver. The five goals he scored led the team. In his youth, Motte played in the 2008 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament as part of his team, the Detroit Red Wings minor ice hockey team.
