Tuomari Nurmio is one of the most popular and richest Singer- Songwriter who was born on November 21, 1950 in Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland. Judge Bone, a.k.a. Tuomari Nurmio is the stage name that is the name of Hannu Juhani Nurmio (b. 1950, in Helsinki) is the Finnish musician and rocker.

Nurmio began his professional career within the English language through American folk music. It was mainly blues, folk, and country and blues, as well as with the Dusty Ramblers and later on in his solo career. He has sometimes taken on an alter-ego, at least return to the roots of English. It was initially Judge Bean, Jr, loosely influenced by a shady judge from an old western film but the name has since changed to Judge Bone, by which name he’s in recent times released two records: Judge Bone & Doc Hill: Big Bear’s Gate (a duo album recorded with his long-time drummer Markku Hillila for Bone Voyage, 2008) and in 2015, Tales of Judge Bone, volume 1. (Sony Music) The album was credit to Tuomari Nurmio and Hoedown.

The first album’s musical style draws upon the tradition of American blues, country as well as roots, mixing them with a new wave wit and energy. The lyrics are romantic and humorous undertones, and occasionally glimpses of the darker aspects that urban living can bring. In the 90s, Nurmio’s style has evolved to a more scratchy and rugged sound, a little similar to Tom Waits. In the past, he’s frequently performed as a duo with a guitar, and Markku Hillila on drums. One of his latest collaborations is with the group Alamaailman Vasarat.

Nurmio began studying at University of Helsinki in 1971 studying general history. He later moved to law. Before his career in music, Nurmio was a reporter initially in the Soihdunkantaja magazine, and later as editor of Uusi Laulu magazine.

In the beginning of the 1980s, he had made an “strong decision” to quit his studies, however he did not make the decision because he believed the thought that “all the work would be in vain”. After his breakthrough musically, He continued to study. His thesis was entitled “Prohibition of torture in international law”. He was awarded an undergraduate in 1983. Contrary to what many believe, the law professor has never been in the field of law, he did it for a short period of time. He was a lawyer for an insurance claim of widows and was successful in the case. “You can say I have won one hundred percent of my cases” said Nurmio. The lawyer was offered a position as an assistant to Matti Wuori, but decided to decline the offer.

In 2011 Nurmio appeared as a guest singer on Finnish metal band Korpiklaani’s album Ukon Wacka.
