The 2009 season saw McBroom was the leader of the Lightning offense, with 114 receptions that resulted in 24 touchdowns and 1463 yards and averaged 91.4 yards per match. McBroom ended the regular season in 15th place in the af2 rankings in the number of yards he received per game and 10th in receptions and 6th in yards receptacles.

In 2012, McBroom was assigned to the Chicago Rush, and finished the season on the roster of the Philadelphia Soul.

Troy Lonnell McBroom (born February 12th 1983) is an ex- American football player who was a wide receiver in the Arena Football League. In his time at the college level McBroom was named to the first team for the KCAC between 2004 and 2006. McBroom was a player in his team AF1 Tulsa Talons where he received 149 receptions for 1 747 yards as well as 31 touchdowns.

McBroom was a student at St. Mary’s from 2001-02. Then he attended two seasons in Delta College, and two final years at McPherson College, an NAIA institution located in Kansas where he earned an undergraduate diploma with a major in the field of Physical Education & Sports Medicine in the year 2006. In his senior season in McPherson, Troy had 659 receiving yards (3rd in the Conference) and scored 6 scores (2nd). Troy was interviewed by teams such as the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans but was not drafted during the 2005 NFL Draft.

With the Lightning suspending operations for the 2010 season, McBroom joined the Tulsa Talons of the AF1 in 2011. He earned nominations for Offensive Rookie of the Year, with 149 receptions (4th), for 1,747 yards (4th), and 31 touchdowns. His 9.9 receptions per game led the league. A separated shoulder in the final contest of 2011 ended his season prematurely as Troy had already set the Talons single season record for receptions, and posted 2nd highest single season receiving yard total in franchise history. Troy also had been invited to camp with the New York Jets, but was unable to attend due to his injury.
