Trond Egil Soltvedt (born 15 February 1967) is an Norwegian former professional footballer who was midfielder. After his time with Viking, Brann and Rosenborg in Norway He then was a player for England playing for Coventry, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday before he decided to retire. Soltvedt was named four times for Norway.
His successes in Norway led to him being at the interest of English clubs. After an unsuccessful trial with Stoke City, Gordon Strachan was signed by Coventry City for a fee of PS500,000 in July 1997.
After replacing Jones as Southampton’s manager, Glenn Hoddle soon transferred Soltvelt to Sheffield Wednesday, initially on loan before making the deal permanent in March 2001 for an appearance-based fee which had the potential to rise as high as £200,000.
He remained at Sheffield Wednesday for three seasons and was appointed team captain. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent Wednesday being relegated at the end of the 2002-03 season, when he was released, returning to Norway to play in the lower leagues.
After three years at Brann He moved to Rosenborg which allowed him to take part in even greater success, winning victory in the Tippeligaen champion in 1996 and 1995 and being awarded the Norwegian Cup in 1995. Trond Egil was also a part in the Rosenborg team that beat AC Milan 2-1 away at the San Siro to advance to the quarterfinals of Champions League.

Soltvedt started his professional journey in the Norwegian club Viking at Stavanger in 1987. He was part of the team that took home the Norwegian Cup in 1989 and the Tippeligaen in its debut year, 1991.
The year 1992 was the time he was a member of the club in mid-table Brann. After the conclusion of his debut season, he was named Brann’s “most popular” player. In his time at Brann the club was able to finish every season in 7th or 6th place on the table. His highly committed style along with his innocent and unassuming personality, as well as the fact a lot of his goals came as midfielder made him very loved. In the midst of the 1995 season Soltvedt was dismissed by Brann’s board of directors for “illoyality”, the board refusing to provide any further details. This led to a protest from supporters of Soltvedt.
After two seasons at Coventry City, he was then signed by Southampton under Dave Jones in August 1999 for £300,000. He was a “tall, elegant midfielder who added an air of calm authority whenever he played”. He made his Saints debut as a substitute in a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on 15 August 1999, helping to set up Mark Hughes for the final goal. He made a total of 24 appearances in the 1999-2000 season, playing in midfield alongside Matthew Le Tissier and Marians Pahars as Saints struggled both in defence and in attack, finishing in the lower half of the table. Soltvedt missed a large part of the last few months of the season with persistent groin problems.
