McCauley was a fan of the team but was not selected for his 2002 NFL Draft and was out of football in 2002. McCauley was then signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. Then, in 2004 , he was a player with the British Columbia Lions, where they took home the Grey Cup. In the year, he was also a participant in training camps alongside the Dallas Cowboys, as well as the Carolina Panthers, he however was not able to be included on the final roster for both teams. He was back with the Roughriders in 2005.

McCauley was a student at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, and was a football player and basketball as well as track and field. In football the team, he earned one of the All-State selection. He graduated in 1997.

McCauley was a three-year player in Texas A&M (1998-2000) before transfer onto Alabama State University in 2001. He was an all-time the left side for Texas A&M, earning preseason All-Big 12 honors before the 2000 season. He earned All-America Division I-AA distinction during his time at Alabama State as an Offensive Tackle in 2001.

Then in 2007, he signed with the New Orleans VooDoo where he played in seven games mostly on the offensive line, however, he also recorded six receptions for 34 yards and three touchdowns, as well as two tackles. He was then waived by the VooDoo and signed by the Austin Wranglers of the af2, where he played in eight games. After the season, he signed with the Cleveland Gladiators. After the 2008 season, on September 30, he was released by the Gladiators.
