Ross’s father Willie Ross, also an athlete that played with Arbroath in the 1940s and Bradford City in the 1940s and 1950s. Ross was able to claim Scottish heritage through his father and was once capped by Scotland at the under-21 level despite playing for his home nation of England at a young age.

Then he moved to non-league football. He started with an uninvolved stint with Hyde United before Tommy Docherty took him on at Altrincham. He was manager of club Ashton United for the 1989-90 season, before being dismissed within three months of the following season.

Ross was made an Everton debut on the 5th of November 1977, in a 1-0 loss against Derby County. Ross then joined on loan with clubs Portsmouth as well as Sheffield United in the 1982-83 season. Ross played 120 games, scoring 16 , goals in the Toffees. The summer of 1983 saw Ross was transferred to Sheffield. After a brief stint with the Greek First Division with AEK Athens after which he returned to Sheffield for a short time with Sheffield United. Ross was able to finish out his time as a player in the Football League with three seasons in the Football League with Bury.

Trevor William Ross (born 16 January 1957) is an ex-professional footballer who played in the midfield position. Ross had played with English clubs such as Arsenal, Everton, Portsmouth, Sheffield United and Bury. Ross also played with AEK Athens of the Greek First Division. He was born in England, Ross represented Scotland at the under-21 level.

Ross began his career with Arsenal when he joined the academy of the club at twelve years old. In 1972, he joined as an apprentice for the club before signing for professional only two years later. Ross made his first-team debut in the substitute position Liverpool on February 1st, 1975. Ross became a fixture during the second half of 1975-76 and 1976-77 seasons. Ross was sacked from the team at the hands of David Price at the start of the 1977-78 campaign, and in November 1977 he moved to Everton for the sum of PS170,000. He played in 67 games all for Arsenal with 9 goals scored.

After leaving football, Ross worked as an HGV driver. In 2007, he worked as a transport supervisor, and in his spare time coached youngsters at Oldham Sports Centre.
