On the 21st of February, 2001 on February 21, 2001, the Church Electoral College summoned by the Patriarch Teoctist in Bucharest elected the bishop Teodosie Petrescu to be an Archbishop for Tomis to be crowned in Tomis in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul of Constanta on April 8, 2001, which is Palm Sunday.
Teodosie became a Doctor of Theology in July 1999 and has been a professor since April 2002. On September 17, 2002, he was elected Dean of the Orthodox Theology Faculty of the Ovidius University, Constanța, being also reelected in 2004 and 2008.
He was tonsured as a monk in December of 1990 at the Crasna Monastery in Prahova County, receiving the name Teodosie. The 22nd of March, 1994 the Holy Synod raised him to be a bishop. On March 22, 1994, he was appointed the vicar of Bucharest’s Archdiocese of Bucharest with the name of Snagoveanul (“of Snagov”) to be ordained by April 3 in the Saint Spyridon the New Church of Bucharest.

The birthplace was Vatra Dornei, Suceava County, Teodosie was the 17th child in the Petrescu family. Procopie as well as Elisabeta Petrescu. He attended the monastery of Neamt’s Theological Seminary between 1970 and 1975 and then he was in the year 1976, a theology student in Bucharest’s University of Bucharest, which completed his studies in the year 1980.
After graduating, Petrescu became a teaching assistant at the Theological Institute of Bucharest. On September 29th in 1987 Petrescu made a promise to the Securitate which he later explained to be “a patriotic gesture” and denied that he had any connection with the police force of the political.
In December 2002, Teodosie Petrescu was awarded the Order of the Star of Romania in the rank of Knight by President Ion Iliescu.
