He was the son of an Protestant minister, Wallet converted to Old Catholicism and finished his religious studies at University of Hull in 2005 and at Hull’s Old Catholic Seminary in Amersfoort in the year 2006. He was named a deacon in the year 2006 with archbishop John Sentamu of the Anglican Diocese of York. A year later He was ordained a priest in the presence of Archbishop Joris Vercammen in St. Gertrude Cathedral in Utrecht.
Bernd Wallet was elected Old Catholic Archbishop of Utrecht of the Old Catholic Church of the Netherlands on February 15, 2020. His appointment in the Archbishopate of Utrecht is scheduled for the 21st June of 2020. His successor will be Joris Vercammen as the 17th Old Catholic Archbishop of Utrecht and will be the 84th successor of St. Willibrord in the See of Utrecht.
Wallet was the his pastor for St. Gertrude Cathedral in Utrecht from 2015 until 2020. On February 15, 20th, 2020, he became sworn in as archbishop of Utrecht from Utrecht’s Cathedral Chapter of Utrecht. In his acceptance speech the Archbishop said, “I want to challenge our parishes to be open houses for those in their areas…We must continue to be open to society and testify with joy to the hope that is in us.”
