He passed away from cancer of the blood in 2014.

Shankar has been awarded a four-year sports scholarship to Kansas State University in 2017 where he is studying business administration.

In January 2018, Shankar broke Roy’s indoor national record with a mark of 2.18 metres, and then bettered it by a centimetre the same month. In February, he further improved on his indoor record with a 2.28 metres leap at the Big 12 Indoor Athletics Championships in Ames.

At 17 years old, Shankar rose to prominence after Shankar overcame Hari Shankar Roy’s record for the nation at 12 of 2.25 meters by jumping of 2.26 meters at the Junior National Championships in Coimbatore in November of 2016. Shankar was the third highest IAAF junior high-jumper of the world in that year. He was in bed for six months in the year 2017 after a disc slipped.

Tejaswin Shankar (born 21 December 1998) is an Indian athlete who participates in the high jump competition. He holds the nation’s high jump record of 2.29 meters set in April, 2018.

Shankar was awarded his gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Youth Games in Apia Shankar, setting an Apia Commonwealth Youth Games Games record with a leap of 2.14 meters. He was awarded bronze during the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati, with a jump of 2.17 meters. Due to a groin strain He finished in sixth place in the Asian Junior Championships and missed the 2016 World Junior Championships.

It was the joint-best performance to qualify for the Commonwealth Games. He further broke his national record by another centimeter representing K-State athletics, jumping 2.29m in April 2018 at the Texas tech invite.
