Ted Trimpa (born February 12 1967) is a Democratic lobbyist, strategist, and political advisor based out of Denver, Colorado. He is the CEO and founder of Trimpa Group, a consulting firm. He has served or has been an official for several progressive organizations, such as those of the Democracy Alliance, ProgressNow, Third Way, and the Citizen Engagement Laboratory. Trimpa is on the board for Tectonic Theater Project, a New York City-based theatre group that is known as the home of The Laramie Project and 33 Variations.

Between 2008 and 2010 Trimpa was an associate of Hogan Lovells and prior to that an equity shareholder of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck where Trimpa was a part of the government relations department for more than 10 years. He worked in federal, state and local legislation with a particular focus to public policies, strategy for politics and participation in politics. The political career of Trimpa began as a legislative assistant for U.S. Senator Nancy Kassebaum Baker.

Trimpa is an attorney and political strategist. He received his B.A. and law degree from the University of Denver. In 2010, Trimpa founded Trimpa Group, a political consulting and government relations firm specializing in progressive policy advocacy and political strategy at the state and federal levels. Trimpa Group has offices in Washington D.C. and Denver, Colorado.

He has been outspoken about the need for advocates to support candidates that exercise leadership on LGBT issues and emphasizes the need for money to be concentrated for maximum impact. On LGBT issues, Trimpa notes the importance of creating an environment of fear and respect: “[w]hat is going to get us equality is fighting for it.” One Colorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families, honored Trimpa with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016.

Trimpa is actively involved with Colorado political circles and is called “one of the most important players in Colorado politics that you’ve probably never heard of.” He was in 2008 when he was the mediator of an agreement between the business community and labor. In the agreement, labor accepted to withdraw four ballot measures that were opposed to by business and the Colorado business community, and 75 Colorado CEOs voted to oppose publicly the right to work and pay deduction measures. He also gathered natural gas and environmentalists to introduce legislation regarding emissions standards based on health for power plant. The year 2011 was the time Trimpa received recognition as being one of Colorado’s five top Democratic Influencers of Colorado alongside John Hickenlooper, Tim Gill, Craig Hughes, and Mike Melanson.

Most major social movements didn’t start inside the beltway. The change has to start at the states.” Active in developing “the Colorado Model,” has helped drive the effort to replicate this model in other states to target close races. These efforts were featured in a 2010 book called The Blueprint: How the Left Won Colorado (and Why Conservatives Everywhere Should Care).
