Ted Alford (born February 2 2001) is an ex-professional gridiron football player. After playing in the college game in Langston University, he played for seven teams of the Canadian Football League (CFL) that included teams like the Edmonton Eskimos, BC Lions, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, and Calgary Stampeders. In his debut year playing for the BC Lions, Alford became a regular player and was nominated for his Most Outstanding Rookie award. Alford spent the following years moving from team squad, and playing only eight CFL games between 1997 and 2000.

In August 1997 In August 1997, the Tiger-Cats were suffering from a variety of injury to the receivers. Following the time that Ted Long reinjured his groin The Tiger-Cats hired Alford on their team for practice with the idea of employing him to replace Long as a player. Alford began his career for the Tiger-Cats on August 8 1997 and was able to play in three games for the team. Then, in late august, Alford got released from team.

Alford was re-signed by the Blue Bombers for the 1998 season. He was cut from the team during training camp.

After being cut for the second time by the Blue Bombers, Alford moved back to the United States and worked in a glove factory in Memphis. He expected that his professional football career was over, but he was signed by the Montreal Alouettes in 1999. During training camp, he competed against 11 other receivers for a place on the active roster, with head coach Charlie Taaffe expecting to cut at least five receivers. Alford failed to make the active roster and was released before the start of the regular season.

Alford was accepted with his club, the BC Lions and participated at training camp in 1996 however, he was removed from the team in June. Although he was not given a place as a member of the team practice Alford was able to stay in Surrey and trained with the Lions at no cost. He was added to the active roster late July, following the Lions eliminated the receivers Darryl Frazier and Clarence Verdin. Alford began his CFL debut against the Hamilton Tiger- Cats on July 27 in 1996. After scoring more than 200 receiving yards over the two August games, Alford was able to start at wide receiver. Alford finished the season as the 2nd most efficient Lions receiver, racking up 721 yards in receiving, leading the team to submit Alford for the league’s Most Outstanding Rookie award.

Alford played in the high school league during his time at Pascagoula High School, where Alford won his first championship in 1987.
