Salvi was born in Yverdon-les-Bains and began his youth football career with Yverdon-Sport. He moved to Basel in 2009 and played in the Basel U-16 team, where he won a Swiss Championship at U-16 level. He played one year in the Basel U-18 and U-21 teams before signing a three-year professional contract in May 2012.
