Clarke was a student at Broad Run High School in Ashburn, Virginia, where Clarke played basketball, baseball and golf. He started his college journey in Towson University. In January of 2013, Clarke tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow and had Tommy John surgery. He was informed in March that Towson had plans to stop their baseball program at the college level, and then decided that he would transfer to Charleston’s College of Charleston.
The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Clarke in the third round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. Clarke was signed by the Diamondbacks and played his first pro season playing for the Hillsboro Hops of the Class A-Short Season Northwest League, where Clarke didn’t surrender an inning of runs in the 21 innings he pitched. Clarke was a part of his 2016 season with the Kane County Cougars, Visalia Rawhide along with the Mobile BayBears, where he had a record of 12-9 and a 3.31 ERA in 149.1 innings pitched in all three teams. For 2017, Clarke pitched in both Jackson Generals and the Reno Aces and pitched to a total of 12-9 and a 3.35 ERA in 145 total innings pitched between the two teams. He pitched the entirety of 2018 playing for the AAA Reno Aces going 13-8 with an 4.03 ERA.
