Tamar Iveri was born Tamar Javakhishvili (Georgian Tamar javaxishvili ) in Tbilisi she was the daughter of baritone Avtandil Javakishvili, who was her teacher.
On June 14, 2014 the controversy erupted again , while Iveri took a trip to Sydney performing Otello as part of Opera Australia. Iveri later denied writing the letter, and blamed her husband for the incident. After a string of days of fierce critics, Opera Australia announced on 23 June that they was “released” Iveri from her contract. Additionally, it was announced that the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels has removed her from their staging of Un ballo in maschera in 2015.
Iveri has been at the heart of controversy due to comments she has allegedly made regarding her comments about the Tbilisi anti-homophobia protests during which a minor gay rights demonstration in Tbilisi was smashed by hundreds of anti-gay protesters with the help of priests, causing more than 20 injuries. In the aftermath of this incident, Iveri is alleged to have published on Facebook a message to Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili that reads (in Georgian): “I was quite proud of the fact how Georgian society spat at the parade… Often, in certain cases, it is necessary to break jaws in order to be appreciated as a nation in the future, and to be taken into account seriously. Please, stop vigorous attempts to bring West’s ‘fecal masses’ in the mentality of the people by means of propaganda.”

Iveri began her career in operas in the year 1998, as Desdemona as Verdi’s Otello. In 1999, she was awarded the First Prize in the Mozart Competition in Salzburg.
