His father Syed Imtiaz Hussain Baqri Hanafi was an attorney by trade. She graduated at Cantonment Public School, Quetta and earned a bachelor’s degree in Government Girls College, Quetta master’s degree in Urdu literature from the University of Balochistan and in 1980, she received a law degree from the University Law College, Quetta.

The first chief justice to be female in history of Pakistan. Her appointment as chief justice of the Balochistan High Court was confirmed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar on the 23rd of July, 2018. On a provincial scale she has the distinction as the only woman to hold every post she held throughout her career, as well as having the distinction of being the very first female judge in Balochistan in 1982.

She is deciding the case of high treason against the former leader Pervez Musharraf as part of an extra-judicial court of three members that was authorized by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the 19th of November 2013.

Syeda Tahira Safdar (Urdu: sydh Thrh Sfdr; born on 5th October, 1957) is a Pakistani jurist currently the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court. She will serve in this post until October 4, 2019.

She was appointed in 1982 as the was the first female judge in Balochistan. She was able to pass an exam called the Balochistan Public Service Commission exam and was elevated to the rank of the rank of senior civil judge on June 29, 1987. She was promoted to an additional district judge and sessions judge on February 27, 1991, and was promoted to full-time district judge and sessions judge on the 1st of March 1996. She also presided over the Labor Court. She first joined the court on the 22nd of October, 1998 and then chairperson on the 10th of July, 2009 of the Balochistan Services Tribunal. She was appointed as an additional judge at Balochistan High Court on 7 September 2009. She was appointed the judges for the Balochistan High Court on 11 May 2011. The year 2012 was the first time she participated in an educational seminar at the Hague, Netherlands on the subject of International Law for Justice on the meeting of International Human Rights Standards in Criminal Proceedings. She has participated in many other international conferences on the legal issues throughout her time as a judge. She has served as an official part of the Administration Committee, the Promotion Committee and the Committee that drafts and reviews these rules as well as their specifics and also prepares regulations, circulars, and notifications. She was appointed the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court on 23 July 2018 and assumed the charge in the role on September 1, 2018. In her new post she was also the first woman to be head justice in any of the courts in Pakistan.
