Randiv was signed from the Chennai Super Kings at the 2011 IPL auction for players and was a part of the Chennai Super Kings for two seasons. Randiv got released prior to the launch IPL 5. IPL 5.
After 5 years of long period, Randiv was selected for England tour in 2016, where he played in the second ODI on 24 June 2016.
On 16 August 2010, in an incident that drew considerable media attention, Randiv intentionally bowled a no-ball–overstepping the bowling mark by a significant margin–to Virender Sehwag–then on 99–that ensured a victory for India in the ODI, while denying Sehwag a chance to score a century. Sehwag struck the ball for six, but since that winning shot was recorded immediately after the umpire announced the ball was not in play, his shot was considered to have occurred following the end of the game. Randiv later apologized Sehwag for using the strategy, but he was penalised for match fees and given a one- match ban from Sri Lanka Cricket.

A right-handed offspinner, Suraj enjoyed a highly successful under-age playing career Sri Lanka. He played for his nation at both the under-15 and the under-19 levels and scored 23 wickets over four matches during an Under-23 competition in 2003-2004.
