Sunny Boy is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on March 13, 1983 in Oshakati, Oshana Region, Namibia. Sunday Shipushu (born 13 March 1983) is popularly referred to by the name Sunny Boy is a Namibian rapper hailing from Ongwediva. He is a performer of a style of music called the hikwa genre, which he created through fusing hip-hop and Kwaito. He gained fame following a collaboration with Gazza on his hit song “Koko” in 2004. The buzz grew through his top-selling song “Balance” in 2005 when the band signed him to Mshasho Productions.

In September of 2006, Sunny Boy left Mshasho Records and founded his own label GreenHouse Entertainment (now Yaziza Entertainment). Following financial problems and displeasure from his previous management Isak Nyambali, Sunny felt it was more beneficial to create his own label and become the sole boss. A deal was struck between Sunny with The Dogg to revise his contract. He founded GreenHouse Entertainment in 2006 (renamed; Yaziza Entertainment in 2008) that brought to the business more of his hikwa fashion.

  1. The first single “Oseike Naave” was released in October, and debuted at number one on various local radio stations. The album features Production from Elvo, The Dogg, Kboz, and Morgan among others, and appearance by TeQuila, Jericho, Hedek, Qonja, Luvy, Chipolopolo and Tre Van Die Kasie. The album scooped hits such as “Touch Me Tease Me” which features Lady May and “Heat It Up” which won song of the year at the 2009 Sanlam-NBC Music Awards.

Sunny Boy became the third Namibian kwaito artist to be nominated for a Channel-O award after The Dogg and Gazza. He was nominated in August 2008 in the category of “best kwaito video” where he competed with South Africa’s Kabelo, Arthur, Big Nuz and Namibia’s The Dogg.

After the album was released, Sunny immediately began working on his next album Elai Lineendunge. The album debuted in December 2006 under the banner of GreenHouse Entertainment. It is more dark than the debut, and includes more of his hikwa-inspired music. It is crafted with a different approach than his previous album. Whereas Young, Black en Gifted was more focused on feel-good or party songs, Elai Lineendunge was more focused on storytelling and wordplay. The album highlighted Sunny Boy’s unique lyrical skills, which differentiated him from the rest of the music industry.

Sunny Boy released his much sought-after debut record, Young, Black en Gifted by Mshasho Productions, in December 2005. The album had a huge success with hit songs like “Balance”, “Serious” and “Oshaikengaho”. In the same year, he appeared in The Dogg’s Channel O Music Video Awards winner track “Baby Don’t Go”. The production of the album was handled through The Dogg, Elvo and DJ Kboz. Some of the guest artists include The Dogg, Chipolopolo, Luvy, TeQuila and Kboz. The album received a great reception making it among the most popular albums ever released by Mshasho Records. The album was well-crafted and crafted using the lyrical structure that focuses on party and feeling good themes. The track “Serious” is a motivational track. The video was released to promote “Balance” and “Serious”.

The album holds the record of being the only, in Namibia to be nominated more than five times for seven categories at the 2007 Sanlam-NBC Music Awards. The Video of the album’s most successful song “Summertime” was nominated for the 2008 Channel O Music Video Awards.
