Dalager was born in Copenhagen during the post-war period of the 1950s. It was which was a time of painful memories that arose from his time in the Second World War, continued economic constraints, and rising optimism for the future. His parents worked as grocers in both the 1960s and 1950s up until the time his dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He describes a radical shift in his family structure after his younger brothers relocated with their parents to the city in Herning in Jutland close to the place the place where his father was raised.
