In July of 2006 Rucchin became an independent player for the Atlanta Thrashers. While playing in his 47th match for the Thrashers on the 6th of March 7th, 2007, he was struck with concussion after being struck from Ben Guite of the Colorado Avalanche. The Thrashers were ruled out for the rest of the season due to post-concussion syndrome. Prior to the 2007-08 campaign, Rucchin failed a physical during training camp, and was ruled out the entire final term of the contract,, effectively closing the professional life of his.
