Steve Mavin is one of the most popular and richest Rugby League Player who was born on January 11, 1968 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Steve Mavin (born 11 January 1968) is an Australian former professional footballer in the league. He was a player with the South Sydney Rabbitohs from 1987 until 1990. Mavin was a player on the pitch in England as a player for Trafford Borough in the year 1990 as well as with the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs in 1991 before returning to the Rabbitohs in 1992.
Mavin would play for three more seasons playing for Souths which included the season of 1989 in which Mavin played in every game, and in the 1989 season when the Rabbitohs were minor premiership teams. Then he played the off-season of 1990 with English team Trafford Borough. He also played one year in the English club Trafford Borough Canterbury at the end of 1991. He was back with Souths in 1992 and injured his leg in the opening round with the Parramatta Eels. Mavin was later let go by Souths and was a trialist in his former club Newcastle Knights and St George Dragons but decided to quit when he was 25. Mavin was a massive and fast-moving centre/winger who was also known because of his spectacular swan dive touchdowns. One of Mavins scores was showcased in the well-known initial Tina Turner rugby league advertisement in 1988, in which she sang the tune”What You Get is What You see.
Mavin later said of the game “A bit later, Ian Roberts and David Boyle came to get me. They said the team function was at Maroubra Junction and that I should come along. I was like, ‘Ah … what can I do?’ But I went along and it was OK. Wally Lewis was there. He sort of gave me the thumbs up. But mate I was pretty inconsolable”.
Mavin (nickname Mavo) played in a total of 101 games in the first grade which included 89 for South Sydney Rabbitohs(first grade player number 757) and 12 for the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs (first grade player number 564). Mavin first made an appearance for the Rabbitohs at the age of 19 on the 27th of February, 1987. He scored his first attempt in the fourth round when Mavo scored an unbeaten double in the match against Penrith Panthers at Redfern Oval. Mavin was a part of every game in the 1987 NSWRL season and scored 27 tries in his entire career.

Mavin is a native of Sydney and has English descent and grew up within Botany, New South Wales. He played junior football with Botany Rams and Alexandria Rovers. Botany Rams as well as the Alexandria Rovers in the South Sydney Juniors before being graded by South Sydney in 1986.
Mavin is known for his performance during the 1987 semi-final that was a sudden death with the Canberra Raiders when he made several mistakes that resulted in being substituted during the opening half of the match, prior to that the Rabbitohs lost the match 46-12. In 2017 it was revealed that Mavin was taken off the field at half-time , having been substituted and watched the remainder of the period in his home at the Cauliflower Hotel in Waterloo.
Since 2006 Mavin has worked as a Stevedore (Wharfie) on the Port Botany waterfront. In 2019 Mavin began co-hosting Rabbitohs Radio, a weekly rugby league podcast covering the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
