Stefano Mautone (born 10 August 1970) is an Australian football (soccer) coach at Melbourne Victory in the A-League. Mautone was initially enlisted from Melbourne Victory to assume responsibility for their goalkeeper training Michael Theoklitos and Eugene Galekovic. Mautone has been in charge of training and creating the former Melbourne Victory goalkeepers Michael Petkovic, Sebastian Mattei, Michael Theoklitos, Eugene Galekovic, Glen Moss and Mitch Langerak while they were playing with the Victory.
In the 2008-09 season and 2009-2010 season, Mautone was assistant coach for the Melbourne Victory’s National Youth League team, as well as Mehmet Durakovic. Mautone recently resigned this role to concentrate on Victory’s goalkeepers of the senior level and to establish his own goalkeeping school, 1st choice goalkeeper.
Mautone was a part of the 1999/00 season making just a number of appearances with different clubs that included Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Gillingham. Mautone eventually joined the non-league Slough Town FC, where the club played for a few seasons. He made more than 50 appearances, before finally going back home to Australia to pursue a coaching career.

After receiving a scholarship from the Australian Institute of Sport, Steve’s professional career started quietly in 1989. As an 18-year old, he played seven appearances in the Blacktown City in the National Soccer League as an understudy of Bill Londos. He was able to make the move to Parramatta Eagles the following season and was a second apprentice to Alex McPherson. Mautone returned to the region of Victoria at the end of 1992 and took on an agreement for Morwell Falcons, firstly in the Victorian Premier League in 1992 before getting a place in the senior team during the inaugural season as a member of the National Soccer League.
After a loan stint at Crewe Alexandra, he made his League debut for the Hammers in September of 1996, and kept the score at 0-0 in the match against Nottingham Forest. The club then loaned him to Reading and soon was a fan favourite after which he signed with Reading in March 1997 with a contract worth PS250,000. He was a part of 34 games in every competition for Reading before finally being released of his deal.
Mautone served as goalkeeping coach of Melbourne Victory FC for 9 years, before departing on 22 May 2015 in order to spend more time with his young family.
