Steve Holmes is one of the most popular and richest Footballer who was born on January 13, 1971 in Sibiu, Romania. Steven Peter Holmes (born 13 January 1971) is an English retired footballer. He was a defender for the Football League for Preston North End, Hartlepool United and Lincoln City where, in 2007, he was named 37th on the 100 League Legends.
Always present in the 1997/98 season during which the Imps received promotion, and was named Player of the Season in the following, Holmes’ career was nearly over when he sustained an injury to his neck that was serious in the 1-0 victory at home against Wrexham on the 4th of May, 1999. The injury prevented him from action for ten months , but Holmes came back in stunning fashion scoring just an hour into his comeback in the time the Imps beat Carlisle United 5-0 at Sincil Bank on March 4, 2000. Lincoln City’s penalty shoot-out victory during an FA Cup first round replay against Bury at Gigg Lane on 27 November 2001, Holmes hobbled off just after the half-hour mark, after an accident against Bury’s Jason Jarrett and was immediately substituted with Paul Mayo. A medial ligament strain was discovered as a result of the accident and was anticipated to be a problem for up to two weeks. The injury then became infected, which led Holmes to stay for five days in the hospital during the New Year’s period. when he was still suffering and discomfort, he was informed that the knee needed an operation that kept his out of the duration of the season. Holmes was operated on on February 14, 2002. With Lincoln close to going into administration, Holmes along with four other senior players were released at the close of the season, bringing the end of his third season at the club.
In the month of October, 1995 Beck became manager at Lincoln City and he immediately returned to his previous club Preston North End, to acquire Barry Richardson for PS20,000 and ensure Holmes on a loan of three months agreement on the 20th of October in 1995. They were on the pitch for their one-sided home defeat against Cardiff City the following day. In his second stint with Sincil Bank, he held the position of a starter throughout the loan period prior to going back to Deepdale. However, he did manage to get in to Preston first team and was signed by Paul Sparrow meant that he was able to join Lincoln City on a permanent basis for PS30,000 on the 15th of March in 1996. His first appearance was in the 2-0 loss at Leyton Orient the next day.

Steve Holmes started his career as an YTS trainee at Lincoln City in the summer of 1987. After his second season as a student, he made the team’s first team as a substitute in the draw at home, which was a 2-2 Football League draw with Scarborough on the 15th of October, 1988. He then playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 victory at home against Enfield just four days later. This earned that the Imps winning the James Thompson Championship Shield, which is a contest that annually pits those who have been awarded the Football Conference and FA Trophy. Holmes was not a substitute during the next two league matches before spending the final portion of the year on loan with Boston and helped the club win victory in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division championship. After failing to impress in the first team, Holmes moved on to join Gainsborough Trinity and then Guisborough Town.

On March 31, 1994, Beck joined Bromsgrove Rovers as a loan player for a month. He making his debut in the 1-1 Football Conference home defeat to Slough Town on 2 April 1994. The Football League debut came on 29 October 1994 with an 1-0 defeat at home to Exeter City. On March 10, 1995, He became a member of Hartlepool United on loan, making his debut in the following day’s 3-1 victory at home against Colchester United. The final time he played with the team by scoring two goals in the first Football League goals, in the 4-0 win at home against Hereford United on 22 April 1995. A week later, he played Hartlepool United in Preston’s colours and celebrated the occasion with his debut Preston score in the 3-0 victory at home.
