Steve Gearin is one of the most popular and richest Rugby League Player who was born on March 29, 1958 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Steve Gearin (born 29 March 1958) is an Australian former player of the Australian rugby league who played for Canterbury, St George and Manly in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) in the 1970s and into the 1980s. An integral player of the Bulldogs in the ‘entertainers’ time one of his best moments was when he converted six times from six attempts during the Canterbury’s Grand Final victory. He was the leading point-scoring player in the NSWRL between 1980 and 1984.
After 9 rounds during the 1986 NSWRL season Gearin was frustrated as he was tired of being at Reserve Grade and he realized in the hands of Warren Ryan and competing for an opening on the wing alongside young skilled and eager players such as Steve O’Brien, Matthew Callinan and Sandy Campbell, he was not included in the club’s future plans for first grade. in within a week, he asked for an exile from the club, which was accepted by the club’s chief executive Peter Moore and Gearin decided to join the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in seeking any chance to resurrect his first Grade career as well as for geographic reasons, as the area he works and lives in is the Manly region. He was only able to play only a handful of first-grade games with Manly and then played the remainder of the season as Reserve Grade. The final game of his career took place on the Sydney Cricket Ground in the 1986 Reserve Grade Semi-Finals of Manly with the North Sydney Bears where Manly lost by 36-20. After the 1986 season, he made the decision to retire because of being bored and losing passion for the sport and the desire to concentrate on his teaching career at school as well as his family. He did not play International Rugby League or State Of Origin. He played only in the NSW City Seconds in 1981.
On the 9th day of February 2020, he was inducted into the Bulldogs Club as a life member.
Gearin was back in Canterbury in the year 1985. For the NSWRL season, he scored one attempt against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles and scored one attempt and kicked 3 goals with the Eastern Suburbs Roosters. Steve was not able to participate the Canterbury team’s 7-6 Grand Final win over former club St. George, but he was in attendance in the Sydney Cricket Ground and was part of the parade alongside the team after winning the first prize in the Grand Final day. In the 1985 season, he took part in thirteen games and scored seven attempts and scoring 32 goals to earn 92 points. In 1986, he didn’t participate in at all in the First Grade for the Bulldogs and, overall since his return to Belmore He didn’t seem to be able to meet with the first grade Coach Warren Ryan as he was an extremely defensive-minded coach of a coach, and defending wasn’t one of his strengths. The last time he played for the Bulldogs was played at Sydney Cricket Ground. Sydney Cricket Ground in Reserve Grade during round 8 of their 26-16 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
