Steve Chettle is one of the most popular and richest Association Football Player who was born on September 27, 1968 in Nottingham, England, United Kingdom. Stephen Chettle (born 27 September 1968) is an English former professional footballer who is currently manager at Basford United.

Both clubs finally signed an agreement for a permanent contract after they impressed during the two games that he played during his loan period. It was the end of Chettle’s thirteen- year Forest career, when Chettle joined Oakwell in the Oakwell Club in December of 1999. Chettle was able to play the remainder of 1999-2000 for the club, and also competing in the 2000-01 as well as 2001-02 seasons. The final game he played for Barnsley was a 5-1 victory in Manchester City on the final day of the season. Chettle was let go by Barnsley in the summer of 2002.
Several months after his departure from Blundell Park, Chettle acted upon an offer to work with Nigel Clough, the son of his former Forest manager, and sign with Conference National side Burton Albion. Clough at the time was the player/manager of the non-league club. Chettle signed a one-year contract with Burton, and he would remain with the club for the 2003–04 season. This would be Chettle’s only year at the Pirelli Stadium and he departed in the summer of 2004.
Following one season with Burton, Chettle moved down the non-league footballing ladder, signing for Ilkeston Town in July 2004. Chettle featured at centre back that season with notably forming a formidable partnership with long serving ex Grimsby defender Mark Lever. This would eventually be both players’ final season, and Chettle decided to retire from competitive football at the end of the 2004–05 season.
The majority of the seasons Chettle spent at Forest were in the top division in English football, except 1997-99 and 1993-94. In the 1994-95 season Chettle was a part of the team that came in third place within the Premier League. When managers and players went on and off, Chettle stayed with the club, and was notably alongside Forest legendary players like Des Walker, Stuart Pearce, Nigel Clough, Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Crossley, Stan Collymore and Pierre Van Hooijdonk.

Chettle received a promotion from the young team set up at his local club of Nottingham Forest. The first season he played in the senior team was the one from 1986 to 1987. He would go on to become an integral part of the Forest side in the late eighties and the nineties. He was present in every one of the teams he played in and the managers he worked under. Steve is highly regarded by the Forest fans after having spent more than 13 years in the City Ground where he is thought of as to be a hero. Steve was a one of the younger crop of players who began their the world of Forest under the legendary Brian Clough, and was part of the Forest team that fell in to Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as being part of the winning in 1990’s League Cup winning side. Chettle continued to be a part of 527 games for Forest across every competition, scoring 11 goals between 1986 and 1999.
As an athlete, he was a defensive player from 1986 until 2005. He was most well-known for his time in the club Nottingham Forest where he made 415 league appearances. He also played in numerous seasons of the Premier League, won the League Cup and was a third-place finisher at the FA Cup. While he played the majority of his career at the highest level in English football Chettle did not make the England squad, however he was close in 1992. Despite this Chettle played 12 matches in the England Under-21s, and captaining the team in his final appearance. Chettle continued to join Barnsley, Walsall and Grimsby Town before finishing his career in Non-League football, with stints at Burton Albion and Ilkeston Town.
In July 2002, two months after his release from Barnsley, Chettle and fellow Tykes defender Darren Barnard joined league rivals Grimsby Town on one-year contracts. Chettle was seen as an ideal candidate to step in the centre of defence and started the season alongside the club’s player-manager Paul Groves and Jamaican youngster Simon Ford. After a slow start to the season for Grimsby, Steve saw his season blighted by injury, and through this, it pushed manager Groves into signing Sheffield United centre half Georges Santos and Middlesbrough’s Jason Gavin as cover. Steve eventually returned from injury in early 2003, and went on to score his only goal for The Mariners in a 4–1 home defeat against Crystal Palace. Grimsby were relegated at the end of the 2002–03 season, Groves decided against offering Chettle a fresh contract, thus sealing his departure from the Lincolnshire club.
