On the 23rd of April 2009, in the initial game following the meeting, Worgu scored his debut goal for the Sudanese league against Al-Ittihad at a match that Al-Merreikh took a 2-0 win. Despite receiving a yellow card earlier during that game, Worgu rushed towards Al-Merreikh supporters to celebrate his first league goal, taking off his shirt. Worgu was given another yellow ticket that earned him his first red card of the match.

Worgu, 20, confirmed this after his last game for the Sudanese side when they secured a 3–1 win over Hay Al-Arab in which he scored a hat-trick. He is expected to earn as much as $500,000 from the deal, while Al-Merreikh will be paid the sum of $200,000.

Worgu was a part-time player for one season with Enyimba and it was an excellent year for the young star. He led Enyimba to the semi-finals in the CAF Champions League 2008, their highest position since winning their 2004 championship win. Worgu was the leading scorer during the tournament, scoring 13 goals, which was five goals better than Daouda Camilou from Cotonsport Garoua.

On 21 April 2009, in an interview with the BBC, Worgu uttered his struggle to adapt to his new professional destination away from home, citing language and cultural barriers. “Going onto the pitch the fans are singing your name, but I don’t know what they’re saying, I have to ask a friend,” he said.
