Stefy Bau (born on 17th February 1977, in Milan, Italy) is an Italian professional supercross and motocross racer. After suffering a life-threatening injury at the end of 2005 Stefy was appointed the general manager of the new FIM Internationale Motocyclisme World Women’s Motocross Championship.

The year 1995 was the time that Bau was the winner of Campionato Italiano UISP Motocross Amatori, which is now known as UISP Trofeo Italia Motocross. The identical year Bau also raced in several events of the Italian Sport Production Championship on the back of an Aprilia 125cc motorbike with Team Tino, conquering as the highest of pole positions.

In 1998, Bau competed in the unofficial Women’s World Cup (in conjunction with the AMA National Outdoor Championship) held in Binghamton, New York. Bau triumphed in the competition, but the results showed that she finished in second place because of a technicality: “passing on a yellow flag”.

Bau dominated the 1999 WMA AMA Women National Motocross Championship by winning every round. Bau was asked to be in her first video game by EA Sports that same year, called Supercross 2000. Stefy then won the unofficial 125cc and 250cc Women World Motocross Championship held in Colorado.

It was in 1992 that Bau was the first to make an mark on United States soil by arriving at the Perris Raceway in California to play in the unofficial first- ever Women’s World Cup. Bau’s aim was to defeat the 1992’s “Fastest Woman in the World”, Mercedes Gonzalez, and she did just that. After that, Bau and Gonzalez became close friends.

Bau began riding dirt bikes as young as the age of four. In 1983, she was just six years old older, she raced into her first race coming in third place. The only girl in the race. Following the very first race Bau was on a win streak which continued throughout her debut year in racing.

Bau competed on minibikes with a capacity of 80cc up to 1990, placing in the top five in each National Championship event she entered prior to this time. In 1991 at the age 14 Bau began racing bikes of 125cc. That same year, Bau won her first FMI (Federazione Motociclistica Italiana) Italian Women’s Motocross Championship. From that point, Bau won seven of the eight FMI Italian Women’s Motocross Championships between 1991 and 1998.

In 1996, Cagiva decided to build a prototype bike for Bau: an identical copy of David Strijbos’s. That year, Bau dominated the circuit by winning every single race she had entered. Bau continued her dominating streak in Italy in 1996 by winning yet another FMI Italian Women’s Motocross Championship, in which Bau also raced downhill mountain bikes in the Downhill Mountain Bike Italian Championship with the factory team Olympia Downhill Mountain Bike. After a few races, the Italian Cycle Federation asked Bau to represent her own country during the Downhill Mountain Bike World Championship.
